Nothing Sacred

Released in 1978, Nothing Sacred was David Allan Coe’s 11th studio album release and his fourth independent release.  Released solely by mail order due to its explicit lyrics, this is a rare and super obscure country album.  Some of our favorite tracks, “Cum Stains on the Pillow”, “Pussy Whipped Again”, and “Whips and Things”.  Vinyl is mint, cover is fair.  20130901-143200.jpg

The recordings of Luke the Drifter are inspirational in tone and made up of segments of recitations interspersed with song.  Taken from the back of the record, “This is Luke the Drifter, the wandering poet who has been termed Hank Williams’ other self.”20130901-143233.jpg

The album Honky Tonk Heroes made Waylon Jennings the father of outlaw country. Released in 1973 in collaboration with Billy Joe Shaver, this album is loaded with “sing-alongs”.  This is a mint promo edition.  20130901-143239.jpg

Stoned, Slow, Rugged

20130721-130755.jpg

Top Left: Will Barnes, Texas Music in My Blood.  Recorded in 1975 at Autumn Sound Studio in Garland, TX.  This recording was the first and last release for Barnes who was a staple in the honky-tonks and dance halls in and around Dallas in the 70’s.  Drinking songs about Dallas? Yes please. This record is in great shape and a super rare find.

Bottom Left: Dolly Parton, Love Is Like A Butterfly.  Released in 1974 and the 14th studio release by Parton. The single, “Love Is Like A Butterfly” was her signature song for years previous to the album release.  Album is in great condition, cover is near mint.

Top Right:  Rusty Wier, Stoned, Slow, Rugged.  An obscure country outlaw gem, he walked a thin line between southern rock and country music, never truly conforming to either genre hence limiting his commercial success. This was Wier’s debut album released in 1974 on ABC, a must have for any country collector. Its very tough but homey at the same time.  Vinyl is in near mint condition with some ware on the cover.

Bottom Right:  Waylon Jennings’ Honky Tonk Heroes.  Excluding “We Had It All” all of the songs were written or co-written by Billy Joe Shaver.  Recorded in the spring of 1972, this was a pivotal album in the development of “outlaw country”.  Reluctant to release the “rock injected country”, RCA delayed the release until the summer of 73.  Record and cover are both in great shape.

Rare Music Ads from Cloud 8

This New Musical Express ad from 1979 is a double promo for The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle by the Sex Pistols. In collaboration with their manager, Malcolm McLaren, the Sex Pistols created this “mockumentary” which tells a fictional story of the formation, rise and subsequent breakup of the band. By the time the double album soundtrack was released, the band had already broken up (for real). Johnny Rotten’s refusal to participate in recording sessions resulted in the supplementation of John Lydon’s vocals from the October 1976 demo session recording. This rare and historical ad is in great condition and framed to sell. 20130415-130219.jpg

Featured in Melody Marker Magazine in 1976, this is a rare promo ad for Grateful Dead’s live double album, Steal Your Face. It is in great condition and framed for purchase. 20130415-130232.jpg

David Bowie’s 6th studio release, Aladdin Sane (a pun on “A Lad Insane”) was released in 1973. Bowie himself described Aladdin Sane as simply “Ziggy goes to America”, most of the tracks being observations he composed on the road during his 1972 U.S. tour. This original ad from Melody Maker Magazine was the debut of this iconic Bowie image. Excellent condition and framed for purchase.20130415-130241.jpg

Every Bowie Release on Vinyl!

With over 25 studio Albums in his career and 9 live recordings, David Bowie has one of the most eclectic discographies in pop rock.  Cloud 8 Music currently has at least one copy of every studio release in stock, many in duplicates and rare issues.

This super mint, German, RCA import copy of Heroes,  released in 1977, was the second to be released as part of Bowie’s “Berlin Trilogy” in collaboration with Brian Eno.  One of the most popular albums of his early career and certainly one of his most successful, Heroes inspired other artists as much as it did its fans.  While recording Double Fantasy, John Lennon was quoted to be in hopes of, “doing something as good as ‘Heroes’.”

His seventh and last release with the bulk of ‘The Spiders from Mars’, Pin Ups is composed exclusively of covers.

Bowie’s words from the Album Booklet (included with this copy):

“These songs are among my favourites from the ’64–67′ period of London. / Most of the groups were playing the Ricky-Tick (was it a ‘y’ or an ‘i’?) -Scene club circuit (Marquee, eel pie island la-la). / Some are still with us. / Pretty Things, Them, Yardbirds, Syd’s Pink Floyd, Mojos, Who, Easybeats, Merseys, The Kinks. / Love-on ya!”

This rare promo copy is in great condition with fair wear on the corners of the cover.

Bowie’s fifteenth studio release, Let’s Dance, exploded in 1983, with its Title Track quickly becoming his biggest hit single to date.  Other hits including “Modern Love” and “China Girl” ensured Let’s Dance as his most successful album to date as well, with over 6 million copies sold worldwide.

Monday Blues

Once again, we owe thanks to Monk Records.  This Italian label has been spitting out represses of some of the best early American Blues artists for years, including Blind Blake.  This sealed copy includes 18 phenomenal tracks, an absolute gem.  20130401-130808.jpg

Recorded originally for release on Warner Bro. Records, these early 1940’s recordings have been released on Moses Asch Folkways Records.  There are 10 tracks in total, all songs written by Woody Guthrie. Both the record and cover are in excellent condition.  20130401-130814.jpgRecorded during the late 50’s as the American Folk music revival was just getting underway, Odetta and The Blues was released in 1962.  All of the songs are classic, including covers of Bessie Smith’s “Weeping Willow” and “Nobody Knows You”.  The cover has slight ware on the front, with all corners and edges in good shape.  The record is in great condition.  20130401-130820.jpg

Midnight Meat Puppets Stage

Stage, released in 1978 on RCA, was Bowie’s second live album. A culmination of live performances recorded in Philadelphia, Boston, and Providence, it mostly includes material from his three previous albums: Station to Station, Low, and Heroes (and for nostalgia’s sake, five select songs from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars). Direct instrument and microphone feeds made for a high fidelity recording and an almost perfect emulation of studio quality, with crowd noise at a minimum. This import European pressing is rare in Blue Vinyl as most were translucent yellow.

20130128-144514.jpg

A departure from their self-titled debut album, consisting mostly of grunge and harsh vocals, Meat Puppets II is an eclectic collection of songs covering many genres from country, rock, slow acoustic, hard rock, and the occasional psychedelic guitar effect. Released in 1984 on SST Records, this is an epic record with legendary songs like “Lake of Fire”, “Oh, me”, and “New Gods”. In April 1984, Rolling Stone’s Kurt Loder gave the release a raving review, saying it was “one of the funniest and most enjoyable albums of the year……this band has developed beyond thrash music to become a kind of cultural trash compacter”. This original pressing is in great condition.

One of the greatest jazz albums of all time, ‘Round About Midnight is a landmark album in “hard bop.” Released in 1955, it was Davis’ debut album with Columbia Records. Taking its name from the Thelonius Monk song, “Round Midnight,” (Track 1, Side A) this album marks Miles Davis’ come back after a long struggle with heroin addiction. This sealed, deluxe import repress from 2009 is mint and priced to sell.
