Most people are familiar with the ship-in-a-bottle Whimsey motif. But these bottles come in many different forms, with designs as diverse as their creators. As early as the 1800’s, they were  created by those isolated or confined from loved ones (eg. sailors, farmers, prisoners). The time and focus required to make them helped to pass time, alleviate loneliness, and often became tokens of affection for loved ones.
