Today, while in the thick of my daily searches for stuff I came across this clock. At first glance it appeared to be a time piece that might hang in an old schoolhouse or library. Once I got it home and after looking through it’s back panel, I could see the reverse side of some sort of text. I replaced its old worn-out lightbulbs with new ones and could faintly read “Westinghouse Television Radio” through a slightly opaque material. I removed it’s domed front glass and peeled what was contact paper from its face, restoring the great electronic giants advertising to it’s former glory! How fucking cool!
Why would someone “deface” such a cool piece of history? My guess is they wanted more of an unassuming basic clock to hang in their kitchen or entryway and must have considered the Westinghouse advert tacky. What I like most about this business is that it’s full of surprises.
This is a clock that would hang in an repairman’s workshop or near their point of sale. Circa 1953. $250.
